THE QUEEN’S DRIVE

A QUESTION OF WIDTH.

DEPUTATION TO WORKS COMMITTEE.

A question concerning the width of the Queen’s Drive between Coutte street and Cockbum street was raised before the works committee of the Wellington City Council yesterday afternoon. .Mr A. San<io waited on the committee, and, stating that he represented the school committee and municipal electors’ interests, expressed the opinion that the road would not be safe until it was widened and provided with a footway. At present a citizen wae erecting a wall which would encroach on the street. If this work were continued the widening of the street would effectually be prevented. However, in consequence of certain protests the work for the time being had been stopped. There was grave danger of serious accident to school children until the road was formed to the proper width, and a footpath was provided. The chairman of the committee (Mr T. Forsyth") said the situation would be inquired into.
