YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS. FLOODS AND FLOODGATES. Yesterday’.- monthly meeting of the Hntt River Board was presided over bv the chairman (Mr W. T. Strand), there being also present Messrs J. Mabey, F. Futter, and J. Mitchell. The engineer reported that several works had been undertaken, and that the last flood of six feet six inches wa9 well withstood by the groynes and the banks. There was one thing that was objected to, and that was the opening of culverts by residents. The chairman observed that this was a serious thing, and that if a heavy flood should come very dangerous results may be the outcome. It was decided to offer a reward of £5 for information leading to the conviction of people tampering with the floodgates. Tlie Taita Tennis Club wrote offering its appreciation of the fact that the board had supplied gratis sufficient metal to lay down two courts. The Petono Tennis Club also wrote acknowledging the grant of a piece of land, which enabled the club to complete its courts.
