SOLDIERS’ FARMS

THE REVALUATION COAIPLAINT AIADE ON ANSWER GIVEN. MINISTERIAL STATEMENT, Per Press Association. HAWERA, October 1. The South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association passed a motion pointing out that the provision made in the forms provided for revaluation was inadequate in respect of the period allowed over which to estimate the productive Yield of a farm, namely. February 28th to June 30th, and advocating that a 'better guide would be to average prices ruling in the district for the five years immediately preceding the war, and an estimate of prices and production yield over a period of five years from now. MINISTER’S STATEMENT “A MISCONCEPTION.” Last night the following official statement was issued:— The attention of the Hon W. Nos-n-cithy. acting AXinister of Lands, was drawn to the Press Association telegram from Hawera in reference to a resolution passed at a meeting of tho South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association, pretesting that the provision made in the form provided for l evaluation was inadequate in respect of the period allowed over which to estimate the productive yield of a farm, viz., from February 2Sth to June 30th. The Minister points out that there is quite a misconception on the point, as no mention is made of the date February 28th on the form, whereon the applicant is asked to supply estimated icceipts and expenditure for 12 months, ending June 30th, 1924. There is no suggestion whatever that a farm will be valued on its productive value for only 12 months, and as a matter of fact, the form when filled in is merely for tho information of the district committees. The district committees are quite unhampered as to the manner in which they will determine the- valuation of any farms.
