DAIRY CONTROL

(To the Editor “N.Z. Times.") Sir, —From my own personal knowledge I cannot say whether Mr W. .1. Poison, the president of the Farmers" Union, is correct or not in saying that ''oo-operative marketing, with compulsion as its basis, has already been successfully accomplished abroad as well as in New Zealand." But I never before have heard of “compulsory cooperation" in this or any other country, and it seems to me a contradiction interms. Compulsion certainly io not cooperation, either in letter or in spirit. Will Mr Poison be good enough to tell us just where he has seen this "cooperative marketing with compulsion as its basis" in operation P We have had so many wild statements thrust upon us during this butter pool controversy that those of us who want to think the matter out for ourselves are hungering for the facts. IN DOUBT.
