HIGHWAYS BILL

PROPOSED LEVY ON LORRIES. FARMERS’ OBJECTION. A protest was made at the meeting of the executive of the Dominion Dairy Farmers yesterday against the proposed levy on lorries under the new Highways Bill. It was pointed out that many of the dairy companies were now using lorries. and that one company in Auckland had no less than fifty of these vehicles. The lew was regarded as an indirect tax on tie dairying industry.
