JOKE NEARLY A TRAGEDY

BOY PLAYING AT HANGING ALMOST STRANGLED. A practical joke nearly ended 1 in the hanging of James Brown, aged 16, an errand boy employed by Mr Brocklesby butcher, of Grimsby. Brown went into the back kitchen, and, fixing a cord to a nail in the back door, stood on a ledge, passed! the other end of the cord round his neck, and called to the maid, “Nellie, come and look at me.” The imiaid, suspecting a joke, did not go, and the boy must then have slipped from the ledge, and the cord, tightening about his neck, almost strangled him. Doily Brockleeby, aged seven, found him unconscious. The maidi ran and held up the boy while the child cut tbo cord. Brown was restored to consciousness by oxygon administered ill hospital.
