A LONG TIME DEAD
Loitering with intent to avoid antiquarians is the charge levelled against a crocodile at Peterborough, England. He has been brought to light in the Oxford clay of the Peterborough brickyards. and on the authority of the experts'has been lying low for 2,000,000 years or so. Mr P. J. Phillip®, a geologist, has just dug up the fossilised skeleton. The bones, which have been pieced together, show that the crocodile was well over 16ft long. The remains are identical with those of the modern reptile.. Before Europe came into existence the creature was a seagoing monster, and very powerful. To geologists the skeleton is known ns that of the steneosaumis. Similar discoveries have been made in the city’s brickyards, but this is tihe most important. It is probably the largest end only complete specimen found.
