ART O'BRIEN
RELEASED AND RE-ARRESTED. CHARGE OF CONSPIRACY. Australian and N. 3. C«tole Association. LONDON, May 16. An official application has been received at Mount joy Prison for the transfer of the deportees from Dublin to England. It is expected that the removal will take place early cn Wednesday morning. LIBERTY VERY SHORT. Art. O’Brien, following on the decision of the House of Lords that it had no jurisdiction to alter the judgment, of the Court of Appeal in the matter, was formally discharged by the court. Mr Patrick Hastings, K.O-» was granted an order for costs against the Homo Secretary. A great crowd outside demonstrated in O’Brien’s favour. On leaving the Appeal Court, how« gt er, O’Brien was arrested by detectives and was conveyed to Bow rtreet, where he was charged with taking part in a seditious conspiracy. * ‘EXTRAORDINARY.” The prosecution .stated that the charge was based on an allegation that O’Brien was assisting to create a state of disorder in Ireland, and was advocating the use of force against the Irish Government. When the warrant was read, O’Brien said: “This is an extraordinary warrant. Can I have a copy?” When O’Brien’s solicitor arrived he said that his client had only just returned from Ireland, and * therefore he proposed to a«k for bail. The court remanded the defendant for a week, but refused to allow bail.
