EASTBOURNE BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL. At the final meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council prior to the election, the Mayor (Mr F. H. Mather) presided. The following were also present: Councillors C. A. Marquis, C. Green, C. Hartridge, H. McGill, H. D. Bennett, H. Shortt, and T. Giles. GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT. The general manager’s report stated that maintenance work had been done in various parts of the borough, and the widening and grading of Rona street was nearly completed. Levelling and filling had been done in Maire and Hinau streets, and it was proposed to put in concrete kerbing on the south side of Rimu street, and to have the footpath tarred. The remaining three tennis courts-had been top-dressed, and should bb ready for use next week-end. THE COAL DEPOT. Referring to the coal depot, the report stated that the receipts for the year ended March 31st, 1923, totalled £1757 7s and the expenditure £1027 13s Bd. It was pointed gut that the surplus of receipts did not represent profit. During the period, coal valued at £6OO had been disposed of to the ferry service. Sales during the present month showed a decided increase. BUILDING PERMITS. Building permits issued during the month totalled £IB2O, and included a bungalow at £OOO, and cottages at £4OO and £450, besides several garages and additions to existing premises. : Two applications for the council’s consent in connection with certain subdivisions in the borough weije considered, ’and wore referred to the general manager for further report after consultation with, the borough solicitor.
