LECTURE BY MR FIELD. At the social hall of the Y.M.C.A.. a record audienoe listened last evening with intense Interest for over two hours to Mr F. R. Field’s lecture "upon the “History of the Earth.” The lecturer got so far as to explain how it came about that the earth’s crust rose and fell at different times as it did, and why volcanic faults occurred in the systematic way they did. A more complete account of the latter part of this, is of earthquakes, volcanic action, thermal activity, etc., will bo riven in Mr Field’s lecture at the Town Hall cu Thursday evening.
