MINISTER VISITS MANGAHAO.. WORK PROCEEDING SATISFAO- , TORILY. Per Press Association. ■ PALMERSTON N., April 17., An official visit to the Mangahao hy-dro-electric works tvas paid yesterday by the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. J. G. Coates). Interviewed, the Minister said the work was progressing quite satisfactorily as regards the engineering part of the scheme. Those concerned cannot do more than at present. “I was satisfied with what I saw, and the department is doing all possible to push on the work. We expect to. finish about next June. Of course, everybody knows the difficulties experienced with the foundations, which add greatly to the cost and time. Still, good progress is being made. The concrete works will be starting in a day or two now, and the same applies at Arapeti. It would be unreasonable to expect th 4 undertaking tc be handled any better. than it is, and men, down there are do, ing good work. It would be quite, passible to waste thousands of pounds at Mangahao, but everything is being don 4 to conserve the cost to s’ mini-) mum. I am satisfied with what is being done. That, I think, sums up piyimpressions.'’
