CANDIDATES FOR MAYORALTY . AND COUNCIL. INTERESTING CONTESTS! A large deputation of Eastbourne residents waited Aon the Mayor (Mr F. H. Afother) with a request that he sohuld allow himself to be again nominated for the office. The deputation, which wae introduced by, Councillor C. A. Marquis, was representative of the East Harbour Borough, and included a number of persons interested in the business and athletic life.of the district. After listening ~ to the request® made by several speakers, led by Mr H. .Jones, tbe Mayor said that he had not intended to again contest the office, but in view of the apparently ex- ~ tensive desire that he should p do bo be would reconsider this decision, # would give the deputation a reply in the course of the next two days. Should Mr Mather decide to again stand for the Mayoralty of Eastbourne, there is likely to be a contest, aa it u stated that Mr William Thomas Wood is iso a candidate. Mr Wood wai member of Parliament tor PaJmerstoo. North from 1902 to 1908, and also occupied the Mayoral chair of that town foi some years. He ha® now retired from active business, and tag been resident is Eastbourne for several years. Seats on tbe Borough Council art also likely to be keenly contested. Only fpux of the sitting councillors are standing again, these oeing Councillors H. Shortt, C. Hartridge, C. A. Marquis, and T. W. Pilcher.
