COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. REPORT ON RO4D-MAKING. (By Telegraph—Special to “Times.”) The Wairarapa South County Council met at Carterton on Saturday. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £2886. The receipts during the month were £399. Mr Laing-IMeason, the engineer, forwarded a report on a piece of the trial road-making recently put down at the northern end of the Carterton borough boundary. The cost of the trial portion of seven chains was £320, and with plant £455. The actual cost was about £46 per chain, exclusive of plant. The total cost’ per chain over all is estimated at £4B to £SO.

Tho Public Trustee wrote approving of loans of £l5O and £2OO for the term of 20 years at 6 per cent., plus 2 per cent, sinking fund. The Publio Works Department wrote giving the necessary procedure for legalising the widening of Park road. The Bank of New Zealand notified that the rate of interest on the council’s overdraft would he 64 per cent. Tenders are to be called for metalling fifty chains of Kaiwhata road.
