CENTURIES TO CEDYE AND GORNER The seventh round of the local club cricket championships was commenced on Saturday under conditions that were anything but genial. On the Basin Reserve two matches—Wellington v. Midland, and Thorndon v. Y.M. C.A.— were played, while Institute journeyed to Hutt to try conclusions with the local team, and Old Boys met Petone on the latter’s ground. PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. In Christchurch the Wellington team passed their opponents’ total of 225, and thelast wicket fell for 370. The chief scorers were—Hiddleston (51), Kortlfing (53), Aldersley (4S), Condliffe (3Q), Dempster (31), and Collins (31). The match will be continued to-day. WELLINGTON v. MIDLAND. Wellington went to the wickets first, and were dismissed for the small total of 148. C. G. Wilson, the “father” of the game in Wellington, again came to light with a good score, and registered 67. Milbrook, who compiled 34, was the only other batsman to make a stand. Gilchrist, wha captured three wickets for 10 runs, was the best of the Midland bowlers. In their turn with the bat, Midland had two down for 47 at the call of time, with Tattersall not out with 28 to his credit. Y.M.C.A. DOING WELL. In the Thorndon v. Y.M.C.A. match, the former won the toss and elected to bat, but their stay at the wickets was a short one, and the last wicket fell for 140 runs. I'he chief run-getters were Mason and Phillips. White, who took three for 39, was again successful with the ball. -In their essay, Y.M.C.A. compiled 153 for five wickets down, and the chief scorers were Westbrook (59), Binnie (not out 31), and White (not out 30). Leggatt took all five wickets for 56 runs. PETONE’S BIG SCORE. —Petone spemt -the -whole day at the wickets in their match against Old Boys, and made 344. Centuries were scored by Corner and Gedye, who put on; a partnership of I 56, and other batsmen to do well were Finlayson (45) and Sutherland (42). Morton, with six for 97, was Old Boys’ best bowler. INSTITUTE AND HUTT. In this game Hutt batted first, and compiled 132, of which Lockett (35), Watson (27), and Pringle (40) were the chief contributors. Watson, with.six...for 55» bowled splendidly.
