ANGLERS’ PARADISE
LARGE CATCHES AT TOKAANU. (By Telegraph—Special to “Times.”) TOKAAXU, February 2. Tokaanu, the anglers’ paradise, on the southern shores of Lake Taupo, is keeping up its reputation this season in a wonderful m’anner. Large catches of trout are to be seen every day being proudly exhibited by many happy anglers, and one can listen for hours to “how I landed him,*’ and “he took me 200 yards down stream before I made him turn.” The fishing, this season, is the best for many years, and big fish are now well on their way np the Tongariro river, which has the reputation of being the finest salmon trout river in the world. Splendid catches are also being made on the shores of the lake. A visiting sportsman fishing for three hours by the huge waterfall about one mile from the township, for three nights this week, caught 42 splendid rainbow trout and 11 “brownies.” The biggest included one 14 pounder, two 12j, five 11, and many tens, the average for the whole eaten being 81 pounds. Very good catches are also reported from the fishing camps on the Tongsriro river.
