TAHITI ARRIVES
MANY AMERICAN TOURISTS. AN UNEVENTFUL TOUR. Excellent weather was experienced by the Royal Mail steamer Tahiti, which arrived from San Francisco last evening, and the run across the Pacific was uneventful. The vessel left the American port on January 12th and called at Papeete and Rarotonga, where she loaded a quantity of fruit-. She has on board seventy passengers for this port, including twelve mem bers of the Chautauqua movement, who are touring New Zealand. “Fully seventy per cent, of the pas sengers are Americans,” remarked one of the officers last evening, “and tb« majority of them are tourists.” A number have hooked for the Island tour, while there are many out for the fishing season. There are three American trotting horses on hoard consigned to Mr B. Jarden, of Christchurch, who, it is understood, also landed three by the steamer City of -Evansville at Auckland recently. The Tahiti is timed to sail on Monday afternoon in continuation of her voyage to Sydney.
