HEROIC LONDON GIRL
MAGISTRATE'S CONGRATULATIONS.. C A slightly-built, almost fr..i!-ic ..ing girl, dressed with neatness, described in tho witness-box of Clerkenweli Polite Court recently bow she threw herself in front of a man as he was about to shoot Charles '"Darby”} Sabini iu the Fratellanra C.ub, Clerkenwell, London, on the night of November Hlth. She was Louisa DoraMi, daughter of the secretary 'of the ciub. The magistrate, when she bad tinished her story, said to her; “Whatever the result of this case, you seem to have behaved with great bravery.”
The five men who were accused on remand with being concerned in the attempted murder of Harry and Charles Sabini, all bore foreign names. Mr Percival Clarke, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, said that ;t remained to be ascertained whether these men were hired ruffians or were harbouring ill-will of their own against the Sabinis.
“Shortly before midnight,” continued Mr Clarke. “Augustus Cortosi. with Harry, George, and a man named ‘Sandy’ R-ico. entered the club, and Augustus went to the counter and asked for coffee. Louisa Dornlli wa» telling him that members only could be served when it was observed that Charles Sabini was about to leave. “Augustus Cortosi turned to him and said: ‘Oh. here you are, you . This is the time to fight, and he waa seen to draw a pistol from his pocket. Louisa seised his band, and he dropped the pistol and pn-hed her aside. Then he and ‘Sandy’ Rice went toward Charles Sabini, and Augustus fired at him. Ho mitsed, and the bultetf passed through a window pane. Eire then attacked Charles Sabini with r bottle. “Harrv Cortosi almost simultaneously pulled a pistol from his pocket, anc Louisa, seeing what he was going to do, bravely placed herself in front ol him. Harry Cortosi pushed her on! of the way,' and Augustus fired at Harry Sabini. wounding him on tho right side of the abdomen.” Both Louisa Doralli and Charles Sabini said that, it was Harry (“Frenrhie”> Oortesj who wounded Harry S» bini. The, five men were remanded.
