ANNUAL PICNIC

THE TRANSPORT WORKERS ENJOYABLE OUTING AT MAID- ‘ STONE PARK. The waterside workers, eearuen, and drivere>’ annual picnic was held at Maidstone Park, Upper Jiutt, yesterday, in ideal weather. There was an attendance of between 5000 and 6W)U people, including some 2000 ' children. Sweets, ice cream and toj\s were plentifully provided for the little ones. Great interest was taken in the tug-of-war, which was won by the water-aiders’ ' team. There were heavy entries tor the various dancing events, and tho judge, Mr \V. G. Brown, bad a difficult task in placing the winners. Among the visitors was Mr F. Fraser, M.l\ During the day the "Waterside Workers’ Band, under Conductor J. J. Drew', provided most enjoyable music, which was greatly appreciated by tho large crowd. The officials for tho day were:—Chairman of picnic committee, Mr L. Glover; officials, Messrs A. Parlane, W. T. Young. F. Howell, J. Laurenson, and J. O. Johnson; picnic secretary, Mr E. Harrison; 6tarter, Mr W. A. Brown; liandieapper, Mr T. Kerwin; clerk, Mr A. Glass; sports committee, Messrs J. H. Dunn, K. The runners-up were—Bose Seaton (3 months) 9, and James Irvine (18 months) 10. In the event of the dispute over No. 4 being upheld, then No. 9 will be entitled to the fourth prize. Winners of events can claim their prizes at the Waterside Workers’ head office, Queen’s Chambers, to-day.
