The following is a list, in order of precedence, of the officers and the members of the French Mission on board the cruiser Julfes Michelet, which is due to arrive in. Wellington from Auckland on Thursday afternoon next:— Rear Admiral Gilly (in command of the" cruisers), M. Guyon (Delegate “1 Minister for trench Colonies), Captain Favereau (Officer Commanding the Jules Michelet), Commander Hennique lOnief of Staff)/ Commander Ferret, Inspecting Naval Engineer Badelon, Lieutenantt-Comtaiander Hus, (Principal Naval Administration Officer A vend, Surgeon-in-Ohief Lesson, Lieutenant Lazennec (Under-Chief of Staff), Lieutenant v illiers-Moriame, Lieutenant Coiffic, Lieutenant D’Anselme (Alide-de-Oamp), Lieutenant- Oiry, Lieutenant Amet (Aide-de-Gamp), Lieuten&nt Halle, M. Ghauvel (.Attache of Embassy and Delegate of Minister of Foreign Affairs), M. Jetrequie (Delegate of Minister of Commerce and Industries), M. de tyitry D’Avaucourt (Delegate of Minister for Public Works), Principal Engineers Pelon, Eccrchon and Bruel, Sub-Ldeu-tenants Rebour, Fiamand, Guichard and Dufayet de la Tour, Principal Naval Engineer (second classy Roussel, Surgeon (second class) Tabet, SubLieutenants (second class) Bacny, De Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa, Poulain de Saint-Pere, Jouannin, Monnot, Blouet, De Cacqueray, De Ganay, Jouslin. RECORDS OF OFFICERS. The service reeords of some of the officers* of the cruiser Jules Michelet are as under: Admiral Gilly: Born 1868. Services in China and Pacific'Ocean. Chief of Staff of the Cannoniers Marins on the front from 1914 to 1916. Commanded the naval base at St. Nazaire during the landing there of the American troop®. After the Armistice was attached for some time to, the Department of Public Works, arid then took command of the French dreadnought, Jean Bart. In 1921 promoted to the rank of rear-admiral, and, given command of the naval base at Marseilles. Now in command of the Flying Division of Cruisers. Officer of the Legion d’Honneur and the Oroix de Guerre.

M. Guyon, Governor of French Colonies : Has seen much service in the African colonies, private secretary to General Gallieni in the first years of th® occupation • of Madagascar. : ExGovernor of the French Gabon and the Ivory Coast. Directed operations against the German colonies during the war. Is an officer of the Legion d’Honneur and Croix de Guerre.

Captain Favereau, officer commanding the-Jules Michelet, was .flag officer of the Admiral commanding the Dardanelles Squadron until' 1916. Was on the dreadnought Jean Bart, and commanded a landing party at the occupation of Corfu. In charge of the air ■patrols of Algeria and- Tunisia. Appointed, after the Armistice, a member of • tho Inter-Allied Naval Commission ; St Constantinople!. * ’Officially congratulated by Admiral Sir John de Robeck. Officer of the Legion d’Honneur. Commander Hennique: Chief of Staff. Gunnery officer on a cruiser in the Adriatic Sea during the first two years of the war. Commanded a destroyer in the Meditteranean engaged against the German submarines. Aviation officer. Officer of the Legion d’Honneur. Croix de Guerre.

Commander Ferret; During the war took part first in the defence of the Suez Canal, and afterwards was commanding officerof a destroyer at Dunkerque. Was in the - actions against the Germans in the North Sea. Officer of the Legion d’Honneur. iiieutemant Villiera (sous-chef d’etat) and Lieutenant Arnet (flag officer) both took part during the war in many destroyer fights in the Adriatio, several times together with the Australian destroyers. Lieutenant Amet during the last period of the war was in the air rfforoes as pilot of aeroplanes. Both are decorated with - the Legion d’Hoimeur, the Croix de Guerre and the Fourragere _ (special war services). Suitable arrangements are being made ’ for the entertainment of the visitors during their stay here, which will he for four days. On Friday, January 26th, Admiral Gilly and the officers of the cruiser, together with the members of the Mission, will he entertained by the Prime Minister at luncheon*- at Parliament House. On the arrival,of the cruiser Jules Michelet in Auckland, the Prime Minister forwarded, on behalf of the Government and people of New.'Zealand, a message of welcome to: Admiral Gilly and the members of the French Mission. To this he has received the following reply:—“We are deeply touched by the cordial ‘ expressions of welcome which you and the Governemnt and the people of New Zealand have so kindly sent us since our arrival in the Dominion. It is a great joy to us to find at the antipodes of France so sympathetic a; reception. We already know the brilliant, qualities displayed by your sons in the Great War, and we are delighted to see them now at their work in time of peace. I personally shall have the (greatest pleasure in meeting yon in Wellington.—Admiral Gilly.”
