ANCIENT PHARAOH

IDENTIFIED AS TUTANK- . HAMEN. INTERESTING THEORY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON, January 18. With great wealth of historical argument, the famous Egyptologist, Mr Arthur Weigall, in an article in the “Daily Mail,” advances the theory that the Pharaoh of the oppression m Egypt, who “knew not Joseph,” and whose death is mentioned in the first chapter of Exodus, is none other than Tutankhamen.

Mr Weigall instances the well-known fact that Tutankhamen conducted great building operations, employing many foreign slaves. He says.that this corresponds to the Biblical account of bloodsucking and taskmasters. The “Mail” points out that, if this is true, it is quite likely that Mosss himself gazed on the very relics which are uow being removed from the tomb.

Mr Weigall was Inspector-General of Antiquities in the Egyptian Government, retiring in 1914. Between 1901 and 1914 lie did much exploration and excavation in Egypt, and holds German, Austrian, and Egyptian orders for archaeological work. lie has written much about Egypt, including some fiction.
