FAMILIES HELD BACK FROM DEATH-PIT. BIRMINGHAM (Alabama). One hundred men are believed to have been killed in an explosion in the Dolomite mine (nine miles from Birmingham). $ The first man to return to the surface told stories of horrible scenes at the main entry to t)he pit, where he passed over the bodies of the dead and neard the badly injured moaning for aid as the fatal after-damp entered their lunge. —Reuter.
