YESTERDAY’S SITTING. SUMMONS AND POLICE CASES. Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr E. Page, S.M. On the application of Sub-Inspector Cummings, the charge against .1 oiln Joseph O’Brien was dismissed. |lt will be remembered that this youth was before the court on Wednesday last on a charge of being a rogue and vagabond in that lie was found by night on the premises of George Thomas Carey, Cuba street, without lawful means of excuse. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The police - now wish tho charge to be withdrawn. THEFT OF SUITCASE. Albert Salt,, a. •qeaman,: aged 24 years, who was remanded some days ago on the charge of stealing a suitcase valued at £l2, the property of Percy Higgs, was again before the court yesterday morning. “This is only a question of sentence, Your Honour,” said Sub-Inspector Cummings. “L propose to convict tbe accused and sentence him to two years’ probation,” said the magistrate. REMANDED OASES. A chaTge of stealing £7 10s in money the property of William Archibald Cornick, at Hamilton, on August 25th, 1922, was preferred .against, Albert Edward, a billiard marker. Sub-Inspector Cummings asked that the case be remanded so as to be heard at Hamilton on January 12th, 1922. A remand until January 24th was granted. Edward George Soutier, aged 28 years, was charged with the theft of a pair of boots valued at £1 10s, the property of R. Hannah and .Co, Sub-tn6pector Cummings said it was alleged that accused took from the doorway of R. Hannah and Co., a pair of hoots. Be would have to ask for a remand until Tuesday next, as one of the witnesses in the case was not available. The magistrate granted a remand until next Tuesday. Bail being fixed at £25. CONSORTING WITH THIEVES. Robert Henry Pobar, aged 39 years, Edward Dobin McGee, 31 years, and James David McEwen, were charged with consorting with thieves. Senior-Detective Lewis Baid that as inquiries were necessary he would ash for a remand until the 25th inst. None of the accused had been long in Wellington. The magistrate granted the remand asked for. Bail was asked for, but on the advice of 'Senior-Detective Lewis it was not granted. . “I wish to go home to my wife and children in Southland,” pleaded one of the accused. The magistrate said he could -.net give bail to any of the three men. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF VEHICLE. George Hill, a butcher by way o! aocuparion was charged with being in charge'of a motor-lorry while drank. A further charge of having no lights to his lorry was preferred against him. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of drunkenness. He faid that it was utter exhaustion which caused his condition to be mistaken for one of drunkenness. The magistrate fined him £3 bn the charge of drunkenness and 10s on the charge of having no lights to his motor-ldrry. CIVIL CASES JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT.
