EAST COAST RAILWAY

FIRST SHIPMENT OF MATERIAL. The first shipment of material brought by boat for the East Coast railway works in the Bowentown district was landed when the Northern Company’s auxiliary schooner Tuhoe discharged 160 tons of oement direct from Warkworth for the Public Works Department. The cement was discharged into barges, and towed up the Tuapiro river and landed near Tuapiro bridge, on the main Katikati-Waihi road. After discharge, the Tuhoe load, ed 248 kauri logs for Auckland for tbo Public Works Department. The vessel entered and left the har hour at the Katikati entrance, the western extremity of the Tauranga harbour, which is 12£ miles from the town of Tauranga.
