NEW FRENCH CONSUL
DISTINGUISHED NATURALIST. - Consul-General for Franco in New Zealand, M. Paul Serre, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Manuka. M. Serre, who has come from Paris to take up the appointment, has been 26 years in the consular service, his last position being that of Consul in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Ho had previously served in California China, Java ; On ha, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Brazil, and Trinidad for the British <»est Indies). -He was dean for three years of the Oonsula-r body in Trinidad and Tobago. He is an official corresponding member of the French. Ministry of Public Instruction, Academy of Agriculture and National Institute of Colonial Agronomy. A distinguished naturalist, M. Serre is one of the five associated members of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. He has made numerous discoveries in natural history, the last one being in 1922, at Colon, Panama, where he found new varieties of sea shells. For his scientific achievements he has received nine decorations and twelve medals. He has written a number of books on natural history.
