INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE
REAPPEARANCE OF MARAMA. REPLACING THE MOERAKI. (Special to "N.Z. Times.”) AUCKLAND, January 9. Frequent voyagers to Australia will welcome the appearance of tho Marama in the intercolonial service, in place of the Moeraki; for, besides being the fifth largest passenger steamer in the Union Company’s fleet, B he is better fitted and a faster vessel being registered in Lloyd’s as a 17-knot steamer, while the Moeraki is registered as a 16J-knot steamer. It is now three years since the Marama was last seen at Auckland. She was engaged, with the Niagara and the Makura, in maintaining the Sydney-Auck-laml-Vanco aver mail service from 1913 to 1919; but when the Makura was converted to an oil-hurner in 1919 and was capable of a higher speed, the Marama was transferred to tile San Francisco mail service, relieving tho smaller boat, the Moan*. She then carried three classes of passengers, but in, the intercolonial service she will carry only two classes, and will accommodate about 400. She is a coal-burner, and was built in 1907.
