Al Rosewood, Florida, twenty negroes and two whites were killed and many wounded in night race riots following the lynching of a negro 'concerned in an attack on a white girl. A score of blacks to-day barricaded themselves in a house, which was surrounded by a mob of armed. whites, who are awaiting reinforcements before attacking the negroes, who are heavily armed. Bands of negroes throughout the district are also arming, fearing a bloody .clash. The State troops are held in readi. ness for instant action. NEGROES SURRENDER A FRUITLESS SEARTH. (Received January 7, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 6. At Rosewood. Florida, the barricaded negroes surrendered and permitted a search for a negro guilty of the attack on a white girL As they did not find him in the house the armed whites withdrew.
