Warne made an attractive 59 before being bowled by Borrows, and the skipper (Doneghue) played a fine innings fibr 46. The pair contributed over half the score, and the only other batsmen to make a stand were: Brook (16), Phillips (17), arid dross (16 not out). Brice was the best performer with the ball on the Petone side, and his five wickets cost him 80 runs. Petone now required 95 to win, and after the first four batsmen had fallen fairly cheaply to Doneghue and Leggatt, Finlayson and Smyrke made a stand, and when the innings was declared at 100 they were unbeaten, the former getting 32 and the latter 24. Doneghue, with three for 46, secured the best average of the Thorndon howlers.
