As the result of the senior championship cricket matches on Saturday several changes have taken place in the contest. By securing a 4-point win, .Hutt has displaced Wellington from the lead, while Petone is third, Thorndon has dropped back to fourth place, and the positions of the others have not changed. Y.M.C.A. BEAT WEAK WELLINGTON TEAM. Y.M.C.A., who were at the bottom of the list, surprised not a few by defeating Wellington, who were at the head of the Contesting teams, and scoring a 3-point win. It was a .well-deserved win, though of course the absence of Bemau and Hiddleston considerably weakened Wellington. Y.M.C.A. had scored 276 a fortnight ago, and Wellington had lost 2 wickets for 117. Bemau was then 49 not out, but of course he could not continue his innings. Kortlang, who had been Bernau’s partner when play ceased, continued hiS victorious way, and played another splendid innings for 130, but the side could only reach 230. Henderson (Y.M.C.A.) took s wickets for 78. Y.M.C.A. got going again in the second innings, and had compiled 233 for the loss of 6 wickets when the game ended. Fulton was once more lo the fore, and scored 89, playing good all-round cricket, while Jones was not out with 64. INSTITUTE ON FIRST INNINGS. The Midland v. Institufe match, played in the Basin Reserve, resulted in a'3-point victory for the latter .on the first innings score of 218 against Midland’s 141* In.thexr second essay Midland did much better, and had scored 289 for the loss of seven wickets when play ended. J. Hutchings was top scorer with 103 not out, and Baker made 76 in good style. PETONE ACCOUNT FOR THORNDON. Petone on Saturday secured a 4-point win over Thorndon. When, play ceased before the holidays Thorndon had made 143 and Petone had 6 wickets down for MO- On Saturday the local team continued their innings and compiled 250. Eight batsmen made decent scores of double figures. Hamilton was top scorer with 52, and extras contributed 36. Leggatt took 5 wickets for 83 runs. second attempt made 202, Warn® (59) and Donegnuhi46} I)sng the only two to inalcf !3 S ,F Stand. p? %rice took S wickets for 80 runs. Petone soon knocked up the necessary number of runs at the cost of four wickets. Finlayson 32 and Smyrke 34, both not out, Burrows 24- Doneghue took 3 wickets for 46. HUTT’S EASY VICTORY. . t ' At Hutt the local team also secured a 4-point win by. defeating Old Boys. When stumps were drawn on the previous day Hutt had made 114 in their first strike, and Old Boys 104 and i& for six wickets, with Collins and Duncan the unbeaten pair. The former was playing in the test match at Christchurch, and without his help the team shaped badly. The remaining batsmen increased the score by eight runs only, and the innings closed for 26. In the Hutt team, McGirr 4 for 2, Watson 3 for 12, and Aldersley 3 for 8, considerably. improved their howling averages. Hurt had no difficulty in securing a 4-point win by ten wickets. ‘ 1 Details of the various games follow:
