BILLIARDS
CLARK M'CONACHY BACK FROM HLS TOUK. Clark McConachy, New Zealand’s pro* fessional champion billiard player, returned from a four weeks’ tour of the North Island on Friday. He Has visited New Plymouth, Te Kuiti, Hawera, Masterton, Palmerston North and Phmmerton. He has had an excellent reception everywhere he has been, but in one or two cases the tables require a little attention at the hands of the experts. He has had appreciative audiences, and at Masterton he made breaks of 291 each. On all the good tables he made breaks of over 200. While at Napier be indulged in some fishing, and got well among the aohnapper. He also had a try out for trout, but got too near the sea and cangh* herrings instead. He is leaving for a tour of the Boutk Island in the course of a day or two, and it is hoped that the public will give him the support and encouragement he deserves. He intends to have another shot for the world's championship ir England in 1904, but owing to the hear) expenses of travelling his last visit Honft was not a success financially. He hopes his New Zealand tour will do something to help him to meet the expenses of the next visit Home, as he is keenly desirous of bringing the championship to the Dominion if he possibly can. His fee is a very reasonable one, and for that rea. son he should receive generous support.
