President Cosgravc, in the Dail Eireann, supporting an amnesty and the British Military Bill, which was read a second time, said that all Connaught Rangers who were imprisoned in the mutiny at Jullundur m 1920, had been released. Mr O’Higgins (Minister for Home Affair?) said that the case of Dowling, who was captured while landing from a Gorman submarine, was being considered. DUBLIN, January 4. The Rathmines Urban Council, which has a majority of Protestant Unionists, passed a resolution calling for an immediate tru.ee. Mr James Macneil, who has 'been anpointed High Commissioner for the Freo State in London, was formerly an Indian Civil servant, and held the rank of Commissioner. His brother is a Free State Minister.
RAILWAY STRIKE
STATE ASSUMING CONTROL. DUBLIN, January 4. The Government is taking over the Great Southern and Western Railway and making good the difference between receipts and expenses. It will cost the taxpayer approximately £12,000 weekly. The Government recommends three other companies, which are more sound financially, to come to a speedy agreement with the striking unions. The Government is considering the position of the smaller companies, which, if unable to. carry on by themselves, will he taken over and a restricted service run. '
