Esther Davies, alias Ferrano alias De Finery alias Phyllis Elvira alias Thelma Davies, was charged with being a common prostitute, in that she loitered in Central Park for the purpose of prostitution. She was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. . FAILURE TO MAINTAIN.' Arthur Reginald Borland, '2B years of age, was before the court on a charge of failing to maintain his illegitimate child. The - arrears in maintenance amounted to £4O 6s 9d. Sub-Inspector Cummings asked that the accused be remanded to appear .at Christchurch on Tuesday next. The remand was granted. y THEFT OF BOOTS. Francis Ernest Hayes, alias Francis Michael Hayes, 46 years of age, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of boote, the property of ,R. Hannah and Co. - Sub-Inspector Cummings said the accused , man called at R. Hannah and Company’s shop and asked if they had any old boots they could give him as he was down on nis uppers. He was told nothing could he done for him. As he was leaving the shop an assistant noticed the man place a pair of boots under his coat. He followed the man, and subsequently had him arrested. The boots were found on his person. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. Harry York, 27 years of age, pleaded guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person in that he had no lawful means of support. Sub-Inspector Cummings said the' ncpoused bad only arrived a few weeks from the Old Country, and had been found: knocking at the door of a residence in Tnstnan street in the early hours of the morning. On being questioned as to his presence there he said he had no money. Mr Kennedy, of the Seamen’s Union, who was present in court, said he wfas prepared to take the man and find him work. Frederick Marshall, alias Lagan, alias Mar stun-, ’36 years .-of age, wascharged with obtaining from Dennis MaFkham. by means of a valueless cheque' the sum of £15.. -- - Senior-Detective Lewis said that, as the accusedJiad elected to be tried by jury, he would have to ask for a remand until next Wednesday. Roland Thomas Ferguson, aged 28 years, who- was. remanded last week, was Charged with- wilfully setting fire to buildings'at Lower Hutt, known ;as the Hutt Fire Brigade such premises being then in occupation by the Lower Hutt Fire Brigade. John Norman, a carrier,, was fined £l, with 7s oosts, and witnesses’ expenses, , Esther Collier, for using obscene language on the Aro street tramo&r, was fined £2, costs 13s, and three witnesses’ exepnses. - Another, Leonora Parker, was charged wun the same offence, and was given a, remand, until January 13th, in order to procure a solicitor. . Charles Printzen was : fined 40s and three witnesses’ expenses for giving an unstamped receipt for an 'amount of ever £2. Rosin a Wood, for being the owner of a dangerous dog, was ordered to pay the expenses of the proceedings—three witnesses’ expenses.
