FIRE SWAMPED OUT

WEIGHT OF WATER GIVES LIST' TO BLAZING LINER. Fire was discovered recently on the Ellerman Wilson liner Dago, which was in the Albert Dock at Hull ready to sail for the Mediterranean. The cargo of oil, hemp, and coal burnt furiously. Land and floating fire engines poured huge quantities of water in the holds, and the weight caused the liner to take a'serious list to starboard. Ten tugs were brought to her assistance, and prevented the vessel sinking by pressing against her port side. The liner was'also lashed to the dook capstans, and eventually the fire was extinguished. The waterlogged holds were pumped and the liner righted itself.
