WAXWORK’S LETTERS
NOVELTY THAT DREW AN OBSTRUCTING CROWD. Surrounded by a crowd of about 300, a showman named George Wilson, of Stamford street, Blackfrian, was exhibiting in Stratford-hroadway a large wax figure of a woman. According to a constable he was busy selling letters supposed to be written by this figure, and fumes from a jar of acid offended the nostrils of traders near him. As the crowd grew the footway was blocked, and the policeman arrested him after a warning. A nominal fine was imposed at the West Ham Court.
