BLAZING SHIP PROPPED UP
TEN TUGS PREVENT HER FROM CAPSIZING., EXCITING SCENE IN A DOCK. A serious'fir© recently broke out or the Ellorman-Wilson steamer Dagt while in dock at Hull. When a great volume of water wan poured into her she took a dangerous list, but was prevented from capsizing by the pressure against the starboard of ten tugs, all with the telegraph “Full ahead.” Tho ship was in the Albert Dock ready to sail for the Mediterranean with a cargo of hemp oil and other stuff when flames, issuing from the hold amidships, spread to the adjoining hold. Corporation and dock brigades could not, prevent the fire getting a firm grip. Firemen were repeatedly driven back by Le.it and dense smoke, and the plates on the port side became red hot. In order to assist the firemen, six holes were bored through the hull ana water was played on the burning cargo. After a great struggle the fire was suppressed.
