FEDERAL POLITICS FINAL DECLARATION OF POLL STILL AWAITED. MR HUGHES SILENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyrignt. MELBOURNE, January 4. Mr W. M. Hughes continues to keep his silence regarding the political situation, and probably nothing definite will be done before the final declaration of the polls is made. This should be within a week. Should' Mr Hughes decide to attempt to carry on; in face of the fact that own party has not a working majority, and the Country Party shows little inclination to work under him, he will find himself in a very difficult position His initial difficulty will he the replacement of the five defeated Ministers. The position altgether is very mixed; • All sorts of rumours are current, and the situation is hig with possibilities. INTERESTING POSITION SENATE ELECTION COUNT. SYDNEY, January 4. The Senate election count in the various States has reached an interesting position, but it will he some days before the allotment of preferences is completed.
