THE WOOL TRADE
"BAWRA’S" STOCKS OF OLD WOOL. The stocks of old wool held by the British-Australian Wool Realisation Association are, steadily contracting, and now total under 1,060,000 bales. During the past three months there has been a fair amount 6old, and the stocks on November 30th compare with those held on August 31st as under: — Aug. 31. Nov. 30. Australian— Bales. Bales. Merino 160,900 74,000 Crossbred 621,000 502,000 Totals 781,900 576,000 New Zealand— * Merino 2,500 2,000 Crossbred 416,300 363,000 Totals 418,800 365,000 Grand totals 1,200,700 941,000 During the three months 259,700 bales were sold. Of .this number 86,900 bales were Australian merino and 110,000 Aus tralian crossbreds, while the sales of New Zealand wool totalled 53,800 bales, comprising 500 bales merino and 53,300 bales crossbred. On December Ist 8.A.W.8.A. held 865,000 bales of crossbred wool, and but for this weight, of wool crossbreds would ere this have seen more money. However, the stock is being liquidated steadily, and during December a further lot must have gone into' consumption, for sales have been held at Hnll, Liverpool, Antwerp, and London, and 8.A.W.8.A. was well represented at all those places. It was originally estimated that it would take at least five years to liquidate these old stocks, but if the demand is maintained at its present level the liquidation should be carried through in a much shorter period. There is very little, merino wool held by 8.A.W.R.A., and, when that is got out of the way the crossbreds will no doubt receive special attention. /
