The Wanganui Tennis Association’s tournament was continued to-day in ideal weather conditions. In the men’s singles championship, third round, Holling (a young player from Lyall Bay) obtained a well-deserved win from Lamp©. His first set won 6—l, and he was five times within one point of winning the second set, l ut by over-care-ful play failed to score. The .third set was very evep, Hollings winning 6— i. Wallace played safely through two further rounds of single with little effort, andi meets'Andrews, the New Zealand bpy champion, in the semi-final of the championship singles Andrews had an cosy victory over Dr. Allison (WaitaTa) in the third round of the championship singles. The ladies’ championship singles provided good tennis throughout, although the entries were small. Miss Ballantyne (Southland), after defeating Miss’ McLaren, the present Otago champion, played Mrs Bogle in the semi-finals this morning. Both ladies hit hard and placed well, the game being an even one. A. good game is expected in the final between Mrs Melody (Wellington) and Miss Ballantyne (Southland). Miss McLaren and . Miss Ballantyne will meet Mrs Melody and Mrs/ Barkman in the final of the ladies’ championship doubles, and an even match is expected. In the men’s championship doubles 1 the beet pairs have not yet met. The Lyall Bay pair (Foden and, Hollings) both. played sterling tennis throughout, and' will not Ibe easily beaten. Wallace and Mrs Melody, who got into the semi-finals in the New Zealand combined championships last week, and who won idle Wanganui combined championship last year, meet Dr. Allison and Miss Ballantyne in the semi-finals.
