Jan. 6 and B—Heefton J.C. ■ Midsummer. Jan. 6 and B—Vincent J.C. Annual. Jan. 10 —Paliiatna B.C. Annual. . lan. 13 —Dargaville E.C. Annual (at V EUerslie). . . Jan. 20 —Wairio J.C. . Jan 20, . 22—Pox ton Diamond Jubilee ■Meeting (1883-1923). Jan. 21), 22, and 24—Wellington. E..G. Summer. , NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Carbine.") There will be racing at Pahiatua on Wednesday next, and after that there will bo no meeting in this part of the country till January 20th, when the Wellington and the Foxton fixtures will begin. Handicapper Henrys secured good finishes at Manawatu, and his adjustments had the punters puzzled throughout the Wairarapa meeting. A decreased totalisator turnover was almost general during holiday time, hut, Wairarapa stopped the rot, the East Coast' Club showing an increase of .£2650 over last rear. The attendance was good both 'days at Tauherenikau, and the totalisator kept up despite the repeated defeat of favourites. Income was one of the. most consistent horses at the Auckland meeting. He contested the four big handicaps and was never out of a place. On the first dav he finished third in the Cnp, half a length behind the winner. He won on the second day, was second on the third day, and third on the fourth day. The Glentruin party voce by no means lucky on the trip north. Dumping tremendous weights the E ; nglieh-brod mare was just beaten into second place in' each of her starts. Such, good performances deserved better fortune. . It has heei arranged that the,,New Zealand horseman, Brid Manson, will go to Australia to ride there for Mr Harold Brown. Festivity developed a. “leg” at Tauherenikau, and, as the track was very hard, this probably affected diim in his race for : the Cup. The race did not improve him and it is probable he wRI be placed on. the easy list for some time. \ E. Hunt had a wondei'ful run at Hastings, where he rode fivo winners on the. opening day. On the second day he r .de two firsts, ’ making seven for tho meeting. Another good run was that of .W. Pine ail New Plymouth. Four wins came his way on the opening day and one on the second.

Perhaps the beat run of all was that which fell to M. ' McCarten. The FardeLl horseman began the Auckland meeting with, a second on Para. He won the Great Northern. Foal Stakes on Tukia, the Auckland Cnp on Scion, rode Glentruiu second in the Eailway, arid, won tho Christmas Handicap on Enthusiasm. Not a had cheque to .earn in one day. Leaving Auckland that evening, be reached Palmerston North in time for the second day's .racing there and was on Tamatet6 when the big fellow beat Rational in the Stakes. Returning to Auckland, 'he won. the Great Northern Derby on Enthusiasm, and later in the day steered Mustard Pot to victory. Maunu di'd not go to Australia with tho rest of Hr Harold Brown’s horses. A , slight trouble in his mouth was discovered, and an operation was deemed advisable.

Barleycorn ran very badly on the second day of the Wairarapa meeting, and he was very sore when he pulled up. At Tauherenikau an apprentice, who rode his first winner, was do pleased with his achievement that he* forgot about weighing in, and was making off ,to spread the, good nows When ho was icminded that'he had forgotten something. Nominations for the annual race meeting of the Foxton' Club close with the secretary, Mr L. R. .Freeman,, at 8 p.m. to-morrow. At this meeting the club will celebrate its diamond jubilee, and arrangements are being made to fittingly mark the occasion. - The starting barrier went lame at' Tauherenikau. and considerably harfipered Mr Harley in his dispatches. Chimera was produced three times during the holidays and she was very unlucky not to have three wins recorded in her" favour. She was successful in both her races at Awapuni, and at Tauherenikau she should have won, notwithstanding the faot that she "had 10.8 in the sad lie Irapuka ran well in the . sprint races On the first two days of the Manawatu meeting, andi filled second place each time, but on the third day, when tried over a nine furlong course, f ho finished outside a place. Mr J, .1. Corry brought a big team up to the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings, and, as they failed to win a race, the trip must have been expensive. Hr W. Higgins maintains a large string of horses, and, as he does not have muoh luck with them; the success of Island at Marton on Wednesday would he well received. Before Tauherenikau Canyon had gab loped well 'h the tracks, but in her race on Monday she ran very badly and once more let her supporters down. Tho wrong sort to bet on.
