ENGLISH AMATEURS. CHAMPIONSHIP RULES. Australian and N.Z. Canto Association. (Received November 12, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 11. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club has received 252 entrants for this year’s amateur championship. Regarding the alteration of conditions, only 140 voted. Of these 52 supported the reduction of the field by means of preliminary stroke rounds, to be followed by eighteen-hole matches, and 62 favoured the present arrangements. Nineteen demanded 36-hole matches throughout, after the qualifying stage, and seven suggested a preliminary district qualifying competitions.
