(By “Carbine.”) The death has occurred at Trentham of the All Red mare Trentham Rose, a well-known performer in the colours of Mr W. H. Ballinger. Up to five furlongs Trentham Rose used to-be able to go very fast, but beyond that distance she was generally out of her element. Of late she has been put to hurdling. In a gallop at Trentham on Saturday morning Vindictive accounted lor Militaire over six furlongs. Halifax, Roset, and Kilroe were 6ent seven furlongs, and the first-named finished in front. Kaika was schooled over five, hurdles, and gave a good exhibition of jumping. He was ridden by H. MoSweeney. Vindictive and Militaire are to be taken to Marton by A. O’Donnell, and they will be ridden by A. McOormao. Lard Desmond will not race at Wanganui, he Having met with a slight mishap. Moutoa’s Gift is settling down considerably, and may bet an improved mare, this season. Printemps is to race at Wanganui, and A. Goodman will also taks Rose of Athens ta the meeting. Ares will not make the trip to Marton. 1 Among the entrants for .the; Otaki Maiden is the Tremtham-tramed. Kilroe. The Trentham contingent entered for the principal event at Otaki, .the Teoao MaMtonore Memorial Stakes, include JBsperanoe, Insurrection, Kyoto, Printemps, Rose of Athens, and Royal Exchange. Derolnde, a three-year-old, which won. the Three-year-old Handicap at Menagle Park last Tuesday rather octmfartaiblj;, arrived in Wellington by the Moeraki yesterday. The mare was accompanied hy T. Young, who is a crosscountry horseman. It is reported that Deraradcj will be racing at Otaki. J. Bamy, the well-known flat racer, returned by the Moeraki yesterday from Australia after a holiday.
