The lCakape will leave Wellington today for Greymouth to load for Lyttelton. The Kaituna was to sail from Westport last night coal-laden for Wellington, where she is due to-night. The John is due back at Wellington on Thursday from Lyttelton, and is to sail on the same day for Wanganui ana Now Plymouth. The Nobel ketch Rira, which is now loading transhipments of explosives at Vile Auckland powder ground, is to sail to-day for Gisborne, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She will return to Auckland from Dunedin about the end of the month. Laden with a cargo of hardwood Poles and; sleepers, the three-masted schooner Wanganui cleared Grafton, New South Wales, ou August 26th for Kopu ana Auckland,. At 8 p.m. yesterday, the Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Moeraki arrived in the stream at Wellington from Sydney direct"; Pratique was granted, and-'the vessel berthed'at No. fl (inner tee), Queen’s wharf at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The Moeraki cleared the Sydney heads at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, and experienced moderate, to strong westerly to southwesterly winds and seas throughout. The cargo totalled 489 tons, including—--1835 cases candles, 200 hags tapiooa,. 792 "bags paraffin wax,. 200 kegs rennet, 160 bags rice, 2655 oases fruit, and transhipments ex Naldera, St. Albans, Carina, Hobson’s Bay, Wyreema, Roggerveen, Arafura, Westralia, Gambado. Tlie Moerakj is to sail from Wellington at 11 o’clock on Thursday morning ou the return trip to Sydney.

PALOONA FROM MELBOURNE. The Union Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Paloona arrived in the stream at Wellington at 11.45 -a.m yesterday from Melbourne direct. Pratique was granted and the vessel berthed at No. 16, Jervois quay, at 1.45 p.m. The Paloona left Melbourne at 4.45 p.m. on Wednesday, and met with westerly winds varying to southerly and fine weather till arrival. The vessel’s cargo included 2350 oases of fruit, and 1155 tons of general cargo. The transhipments were ex the Nialdera, Gambado, Edina, Carina, Citta de Genova, Waiotapu, Burelia and Hobson’s Bay. The Paloona is timed to sail from Wellington at 4 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and Melbourne. MAINDY COURT WITH JARRAH. Murray, Roberts and Co., agents for Watts, Walts and Co., owners of the cargo steamer Maindy Court, have been notified that the vessel left Newcastle yesterday, en route from Bunbury (West Australia) with a cargo of iarrah for disohargo at Lyttelton, Auckland, and Tauranga. PUTIKI VICE RIPPLE. Johnston and Co. advise that the Putiki will take the Ripple's run, sailing from Wellington this afternoon for Akitio, Napier, and Gisborne. As the Putiki is to leave the wharf at 4 p.m. to-day sharp for the powder ground, shippers are advised to have their cargo alongside the ship as early as possible. It { was found yesterday that the Putipd’s hatches were not large enough to ifeke the big five-ton railway girders for Waikokopu. These girders measure 33ft in length, 6ft in height by 14in wide. It was then decided to ship them by the Ripple, whioh will make two trips with them to Waikokopu, sailing on the first trip from Wellington to-day ORARI DUB FRIDAY. The Federal Line advise that the Orari is to leave Auckland to-morrow for Wellington in continuation of her voyage from Liverpool. The vessel is due at Wellington on Friday, and after putting out part cargo, will proceed on to Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff with the remainder

Cable news Las been received by the Union Company that the Waihora, en :oute from Calcutta and Singapore, left buna rang’ on Saturday afternoon, for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland about September 24th and at Wellington a week later. WAIKAWA DEFT NEWCASTLE. The Union Company received cable advice that the Waikawa left Newcastle at 5.30 p.m on Saturday for Wellington, -with a cargo of coal. The vessel is due at Wellington on Thursday evening. TKEMERE DUE THURSDAY. The Federal Line advise that the steamer Tremere will leave Auckland today for Wellington, in continuation of her voyage from New York. The ves6ei is due at Wellington on Thursday, and after putting out .part cargo, will sail lor Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia to complete discharge. ATHENIC LOADING. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Athenic, now at Fort Chalmors, will leave there to-morrow for Timer a and W'ellington to complete Homeward loading. The vesesl is due at Wellington next Tuesday, and trail sail at daybreak on the 17th instant for Southampton and London, via Monte Video and Teneriffe. THE WESTMORELAND. - The Federal Line advise that the Westmoreland will now leave Gisborne to-day for Wellington, where she is due on Thursday to complete loading. Ihe vessel will 6ail from Wellington next Saturday for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, Winchester, and Glasgow. THE MANUKA. The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger 6teamer Manuka arrived at Sydney at 6 a.m. yesterday from Wellington. She ia to leave the Neyr South Wales port on Thursday afternoon for Auckland. NAVUA~ AT SUVA. Advice has been received by the Union Company that their Island steamer Navua arrived at Suva at 6.45 a.m. yesterday from Tonga. The vessel leaves the Fijian port to-morrow for Auckland, where she is due on Monday morning. THE TUTANEKAI. The Marine Department advise that the Tutamekai left East Cape lighthouse yesterday morning for Cuvier, in continuation of her round trip to the northern lighthouses. AUSTRALIA AT AUCKLAND. The steamer Australia, cargo-laden from Liverpool, arrived at Auckland yesterday morning. The vessel will leave the northern port on Friday for Wellington, where she is due on Sunday to put out part cargo to the agency of the Federal Line.' MANAGER OF WESTPORT HARBOUR. Mr J. W. Curtis, late of the Railway Department, New Plymouth, has been appointed managing secretary of the Westport harbour bv the Marine Department in place of Mr W. According to cable news received by tbe Union Company their motor-ship Hawaii arrived at San Francisoo on Saturday morning from Newcastle via Honolulu. MAKURA LEFT SUVA. The Union Company Shave received advice that the R.M.S, Makura left Suva at 5 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, en route from Vancouver. The vessel is due at Auckland on Friday morning. DANGER TO NAVIGATION. •Captain W. W. Barlow, of the Waiotapu. reports that Havre Rock was observed by him to bear 311 deg. distant 6.5 miles from L’Esperanoe Rock; the sea being rough and a considerable break being observed. Mariners are- cautioned to give L’Esperance Rock a wide berth, as other submerged obstructions may exist in this locality, which has been only partially examined. MARAROA AT GLASGOW WHARF. Tbe Union Company advise that their "ferry" steamer Mararoa will berth at the Glasgow wharf this morning on arrival from Lyttelton. The vessel will leave the Glasgow' wharf this evening for Lyttelton. THE SALE OF. THE GALE. The Moecaki, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Sydney, brought back members of the crew of the steamer Gale, which was recently delivered to her new owners in Australia. It is understood that the purchasers of the Gale are the Tasman Shipowners* Proprietary, Ltd. The vessel, it is said, will run between Port Kembla and Strahan (Tasmania). The second officer, Mr Hatchwell, and the chief and second engineers, Messrs Cassie and Graham, -returned by the Moeraki. NEW PLYMOUTH BEACON. A "Gazette’’ notice announces that the New Plymouth Harbour Board notifies that two conspicuous wooden trapesoldalshaued black and white diamond-chequer-painted beacons, each of which is surmounted with an oval-shaped disc, have been erected on the southern shore of the harbour. Between tbe hours of sunset and sun. rise the front beacon, which is situated on the beach, will exhibit at a height of 20ft above M.H.W.S. a fixed red light visible over an arc of 10.5 deg. The rear beacon, which is situated near the obelisk. will exhibit at a height of 50ft above M.H.W.S. a fixed red light visible over a greater ara. Both lights should be visible for a distance of fiye miles. The beacons, when in transit 204.8 deg., lead into the 'harbour clear of the proposed breakwater extension.
