CANNED FRUIT TRADE PURCHASES NEGLIGIBLE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received September 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 2. Tho canned fruit trade is going from bad to worse. With the continuance of cold, wet weather the demand is almost nothing. One large wholesale grocery firm, employing forty travellers throughout the United Kingdom,, only received orders from them for three cases of fruit in one week. Tho quantity for delivery from the chief London wharf where fully 150,000 oases are etored. amounted, last week, to only about fifty oases. Some holders of canned fruit not belonging to tho pool tried an auction sale. About 5000 cases of Australian peaches and pears were offered, and only two lots were sold, although tho reserves fixed were at very modest levels, the highest bids being 10s for a dozen 27 ounce tins.
