At Brookline, Massachusetts, the na. tional amateur golf championship meeting qualifying round resulted in Gardner, the American, being first with 71, and Torrance,, of Britain,- seoond with 72. Other : British playero* scores were: Tolley 74, - Aylmer 76, Caven 78, Mackenzie 79, - Uooman 81, Darwin 82, Wethored 83.
