CHANGEABLE AND DRY. 1 The weather for the month of August was changeable in character, dominated chiefly by westerly disturbances, with the lowest pressure passing southward of the Dominion. The most noticeable of these depressions was one which ruled between August 14th and 25 th, and which wa« responsible for the bulk of the rainfall experienced locally. The aggregate rainfall for the month in Wellington was .2.80 inches. Which is 48 per cent, below the average of previous years. There were 11 frosts recorded during the month. The wind force averaged 181 miles per day, being 36 miles per day under the mean. The greatest velocity was 41/ miles per day, which occurred during the 24 hours preceding 8 a.m. on the 24th. Sunshine totalled 164 hours 17 minutes, which is above the average by 23 hours 36 minutes, and equal to 51 per cent, of the possible.
