The protable cost of the-chtoge-over from the present electric lighting voltage to the higher standard, decided on by the City Council three weeks ago, was brought up at list Thursday’* meeting of the City Council bv Councillor L. McKenziOj. He asked the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P.) if he oould give any idea of what the change would oost the city. It had been suggested, he said, “that it would amount to about half a million pounds." “Oh, tliat’q too big an order,” replied the Mayor, with a smile. “I have no idea of the probable cost, but we will receive a report in due course which the tramways committee is having prepared." -• *

The City Council has granted authority for the acquisition of land adjoining the car-sheds at Kilhirnie for the purpose of. extensions to the present housing accommodation. The addition to the sheds has been occasioned through the construction of a number of new trams. Provision is also to be made for workshops, and otheT departments, connected with the sheds.
