INSTRUCTION CAMP

AT RUAXUB3E fKljufg ; ■ HOLIDAY AGRICULTURAL CLASHES.

The Auckland Education Board had arranged, stated Hr J. A. Young (Waikato) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, that during the sdhool holidays 110 boys from the schools ip the Auckland district were to have a week’s instruction at the Buakuna State farm. (Tfcb Auckland Board was prepared to devote -2132 .tt-tir? expenses of the project, but it had been turned down by the Education Department on the eeoro of financial necessity. He thought that' ll mistake had been made, and asked tee Minister for Education on what grounds the JSdueation Department had refused a grant to the Auckland Education Board fqr. the purpose of making an instruction camp at Buakura. They had accommodation at the farm for,the bogs and' the necessary. instructors.. The -Hon. C. J. Parr said that; the aplication for a grant .was turned down by the department, under a decision come to six months ago that, while the financial stringency remained, there should be no further schools of instruction added. The decision was a general one, but provisiou was made for the consideration of cases that were exceptional. It was true that the department last Week had refused the request of the Auckland Board. He had looked into the matter that day, and found that 105 boys were finishing their course in agriculture at the High School, and he had to admit that there boys undoubtedly would receive a very useful week’s instruction at B.’isVnra. especially cm the science side. Under all the circumstances, he , had decided 1 to. reconsider the matter and he hoped to give a decision this morning after qpnstuting with the officers of the department. The Prime Minister reminded hhn that a minute of Cabinet would have to he rescinded: and he would bring the matter before Cabinet to-day.
