The letter added: “Anton, of tho Waterside team, admitted freely after the game that he had held Ewing, and I have no doubt that were the question put directly to him he would stand by his word.” It was also claimed that the forwards were off-side. The referee gave his view of the incident. saying he did not see Ewing hold, and gave the goal. Etving protested, bur after consulting the linesmen —one or whom said Bwing was not held, and the other thought he was—he confirmed his decision, a goal. The Thistle secretary and goal-keeper attended to give their statements, and the chairman said that, while they were willing to hear them, they were not holding an inquiry. Ewing said he was held when trying to get tho ball away. He was pinned, and could not get away, eo that he could not clear. When told what had occurred, the referee said ‘‘That doesn’t matter." Houston, another Thistle forward, said Ewing was held by a Waterside player, and the forwards were off-side. Mr Smith agreed that, while both incidents were questions of fact, the W.F.A. had in the past turned down a referee’s decision on a question of fact.
