Tho general strike ordered by the Communist Confederation of Labour, which is not recognised by the original confederation which embraces the more conservative trade unionists, was a pitiful fiasco. There wore a few exciting incident* in the suburbs. Three thousand strikers massed on the tram lines at Bulogne - Bur - Seine, attempted to cut the trolley cords as the trams dashed by. stoned the police, injuring several, hut were eventually dispersed by means of mounted troop charges. Conditions at Havre are almost normal. The principal services are operating. The Rouen trade unionists decided on a day’s strike to-morrow. The ‘‘Morning Post’s” Paris correspondent, writing concerning the Havre engineers Tefusal of the wage cut, points out that tho cost of foodstuffs index in France is 381, compared with 100 before the war. PARIS, August 29. The general strike has been abandoned.
