MATERNITY NURSES
LONG HOURS OF WORK. “NO STANDARD” SAYS MINISTER Replying in the House of Representatives yesterday to a question by Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., the Minister for Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr) dated that he was informed that the hours worked by nurses in maternity homes were rather long, running from six o'clock in the morning till nine o’clock at night-. But every day, either morning or afternoon, the nurses were allowed five or six hours off duty, as well ns time-off for meals. They also had as frequently as possible a day off per week; only the exigencies of maternity work did not allow of regularity in regard to time-off duty. Sir J. P. Luke (Wellington North): Is there any standard? The Minister: No.
