EASTBOURNE CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The BAstbov.rne Bowling Club’s fifteenth annual meeting was held in the local council chambers on Monday evening* laat, a large and representative gathering of the club members being in attendance thereat, Mr P. Levi, club president, .beinjg in the chair. The nnnual report was as under:— The cilub maintains its popularity, and steady progress continues to bo made. The past season has been one of the most successful of the club. The memberhip has again increased and now approaches in number a substantial total. A num her of “(Sty members/,’ paying a small fee 6till patronise the club at n oek-er ids. The financial position ef the club has considerably improved and the committee is now able to present a balance : sheet showing no liabilities othei than tile bank overdraft. The long, standinif water-service account has now been discharged. A much-needed addition has been made to the dub’s pavilion and the dub is indebted to several members for voluntary work in connection with the same. Our thanks in this respect are especially due to Messrs 8. Johns, G. Glapham, S. Jackson, and L Oimino, for the construction, and to Mr A. Beu for painting. Besides taking part in a number of friendly games, the club corny toted in all the senior pennant matches, and members were thus given many -opjiortunities of playing on other greens. No entry was made for junior pennants, but juniors competed in the ‘junior stars” and brought them to the club for a brief period. Teams were entered fo*- all the champion of championship matches, and in the singles, our Mr T. Mayer (the former champion) was "runner-mp." The club’s annual match frith the Lower Hutt Club, on Anniversary Hay, was played on the Lower Hutt green, and the members playing greatly appreciated the hospitality extended to them. Our chib matches were, far the first tune, brought to a conclusion, upon frhich members are to be congratulated. The Wflford challenge oup (for pairs) fras won by Messrs Cdmino and Exlcy; championship pairs, bv Messrs McKeride and! Norris; senior singles, by Mr T. Mayer; and junior singles, by Mr S. Johns. The club’s social end dance, held last year, was a success, and our thanks are due to the vocalists and instrumentalists who. assisted; and to Mr C. A. Marquis tar his services in organising the affair Recognition must also be given to the enthusiastic service of our greenkeeper, Mr F. Abraham. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. After receiving and adopting the annual report and bulance-ofleet, tne following officers were elected for the ensuing year President, Mr W. Ridier; vice-president, Mr F. Chittey; hon. secretary, Mr St. John White; hon. treasurer, Mr F. Stewart; hon. auditor. Mr J. R. Xoe; delegate to Centre, Mr A. Munro; management committee, Messrs L. Cimino, A. Curtayne, A. 15. Dawson, S. Jackson, A. Munro; all of whom, excepting Messrs Dawson, Jackson, and Los, held office last year. Votes of thanks for services rendered were accorded the retiring secretary and president, the latter .predicting a pleasant term of office for those newly-elected officers, who would find new and improved conditions to work under as a result of the careful and prudent management of club affairs during the pest two seasons, and aided, as in the past, by the loyal co-operation of members generally, the club would* continue to prosper at their hands, Mr R. W. Shallcrass, the new secretary to Wellington Centre, who was in attendance at the meeting, addressed the members, and, as a result of his appeal, it was decided that Eastbourne Club enter four rinks in connection with the new system of play to replace the erstwhile pennant games, which, under past conditions, were becoming lees popular with payerel generally year by year. It was also deoided that Eastbourne Club take no part in junior pennant games this year, and to convert the olnb’s Easter tournament into a purely local affair, in order to encourage new season's players in particular to aeonstom themselves to tournament conditions of play, and to permit club members generally to use to fullest advantage their seaside green at holiday time, and not stand on the (bank as in the past two years. The names of several new members were handed in for election at the hands of the new committee in September, the meeting terminating with the customary vote of thanks to the chair.
